RAA is proud to bring Kelvyn Koning to Batesville as part of our Arts in Education initiative. Kelvyn will be working with our high school choirs on Monday and Tuesday and will be performing live Monday January 15, 2018 at Amack's! Kelvyn Koning hails from the rinky-dink metropolis of McBain, MI. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI and has been commissioned to write pieces for his alma mater as well as for Zeeland High School and Batesville High School. He has acted as a staff accompanist at Calvin College and Aquinas College and has worked as a pianist with several churches, choirs, theaters, and music students. He has sung as a choral member and countertenor soloist with the Calvin Alumni Choir and the Choral Scholars, and is now a member of the Boston Conservatory Conductor's Choir as well as Boston Quorum, where he serves as male soprano and accompanist. Kelvyn is currently the Director of Music at First Baptist Church of Melrose and has extensive experience in leading and planning church music. He also teaches piano and voice lessons and works as a freelance performer. He completed a songwriting and performance program at the Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, TN and now attends the Boston Conservatory, where he is pursuing his Master of Music in Composition. During the performance he will be doing songs from Broadway to jazz to pop! He will be performing several originals, as well as works by Stephen Sondheim, Joni Mitchell, and many more!
