Toca Madera visits Batesville Middle School virtually

BMS students in 6th and 7th grade were recently able to experience a live virtual performance

of Toca Madera. Our musical duo took students on an interactive journey through a variety of

Latin American and Caribbean art forms. As we explored a number of exotic instruments,

rhythms, and melodies native to Latin American cultures, connections were made to familiar

instruments and playing techniques used in music class each day.

Throughout the performance, students were given the opportunity to sing along to well-known

tunes and show off their Samba dance moves all while learning a bit of Spanish vocabulary

along the way! The experience concluded with an open Q+A in which students were fascinated

to learn of our performers' musical backgrounds and diverse skill set on the very same

instruments played at BMS.
